Apple ID Reset

We have acquired the assets of a defunct company that had filed for bankruptcy and is no longer in business.

One of those assets is an Apple iPad. We don't have the original AppleID or Password. Is there any way to break into the iPad or is it just junk at this point. There's no way to contact the original owner, and don't have documentation on transfer of ownership.
