Studio Display won't turn on!

So yesterday I got the Studio Display.

Used the provided thunderbolt cable to connect to my MacBook pro 13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Everything was fine.

But today is not working! Restarted the macbook and still not working. It is charging my laptop but the Studio Display won't turn on.

What can I do? Return it???

So annoyed.

I got my brand new Studio Display (with 15.4 already on it), from the Apple Store today and experienced the same behavior with both a 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro, and a 2021 iPad Pro 12.9. Nothing but flicker on/pod and the three dots when powering on.

However, as soon as I switched to the Thunderbolt cable that came with my old LG Ultrafine, everything just worked. Will be contacting Apple Support for a new Thunderbolt cable because those suckers ain’t cheap and should work out of the box with an expensive monitor like this!

I've just figured out how to fix mine. My set up is a MacBook Pro 16 inch (2021), so this might only apply to me.

My understanding was that I could use the Studio Display (nano textured glass version – if at all applicable) to keep my laptop charged while I was using the whole set up. So, I didn't have the MagSafe power plugged in. This morning, I fully unplugged the Studio Display from the wall and MacBook – assuming I'd need to start thinking about returning it. I put my MacBook on charge using MagSafe. Then, I tried the display one last time and it turned on. Assuming it was somehow fixed, I took the MagSafe charger out and put it back in my bag. Right away, the Studio Display turned off. MagSafe back in, the display turns on.

I'm assuming it should charge my MacBook though? So this still feels like a real miss from Apple. At least it's working so I can actually do my work today.

Hope this fixes everyone's issue. Apologies for the novel, I just wanted everyone to potentially recreate the issue if needed.

I got my Apple Studio Display yesterday and had the same problem here. I have an M1 Mac Mini with 2 monitors attached (one is a Cintiq 24 HD display). When I switched out my secondary monitor for the Studio Display… 3 dots and a dark screen. The Cintiq synced just fine with both monitors attached (I’m using a converter cable for the Cintiq that is DVI to USB-C) After much fiddling, I removed all of the displays and just attached the Studio Display. It came up right away, but when I attached my Cintiq no sync. After some more fiddling, I switched the converter cable on the Cintiq from DVI/USB-C to DVI/HDMI, and everything works swimmingly. I hope this is some help.

I have brand new Mac Studio and Studio Display. All went well for 2-3 days; updated firmware on both. Then this morning display went blank in the middle of using. Apple support said they will send me new cable. Could be a solution, but somehow I doubt it.

Not good considering the price & the very long wait I have had.

I'll let you know if new cable cures it.

This just happened to me. Aug 5, 2022 i plugged in my MacBook Pro 14" 2022 and the Studio Display did not turn on. Just black. I unplugged the display for 30 seconds, replugged, saw the 3 dots for a few seconds, then plugged in my MacBook and nothing. I plugged in my 2nd MacBook and nothing. This happened shortly after I heard there would be a fix for the audio-dropping-problem (which I have had).... maybe some pushed fix for that is the problem? Later that day, still no success. Will call Apple next week. Frustrating for an ultra-premium priced product.

Just hooked up my new Mac Studio to two studio displays and after a few days one of my studio displays no longer functions. When I recycle the power (unplugging) I receive the three dots and then nothing. Went through all the troubleshooting steps with Apple Support and still nothing. Just took it into Apple and they're going to troubleshoot it and let me know the outcome. Will let you all know what happens. Like several have said, kind of sad after paying that much for a monitor and waiting several months for it to come in.

Having exactly the same issue. Had it on for less than 6 hours before it bricked. I left it while my MacBook Pro was sleeping and when I can back to it, it said the display switched off because of a problem.

I now get the three dots when I switch it off and on again at the mains.

It’s still charging my MacBook Pro but it’s clearly not working as it’s not doing it consistently. It’s charging then not charging. Charging, then not charging.

Really not great…

Just got this delightful error report (well, this is just a small snippet) when it said the screen turned off because of a problem. Got to love a report that starts with the word “panic.”
