Adding Bookmarks to Safari

I can no longer add bookmarks to Safari Version 15.3 (17612.4.9.1.8).

I have already deleted com.apple.Safari.plist

What to do?

Many thanks.

What happens when you try to add a bookmark?

Originally, nothing was happening. CMD+D to save the page in a designated folder. No bookmark.

When I repeated the operation, the second time, (2) appeared in the name of the bookmark as if another of the same was already there.

Is the option to add a bookmark missing?

No.

If it is there and you attempt to add a site, where does it attempt to add the bookmark?

Favorites, Bookmarks or somewhere else?

The destination that I select is always correct.

With a little more research, I came across this solution,

which is working so far:

I created a new Bookmark folder; I then (CMD+D) successfully

saved a Safari page in it. Then I saved the same page in its designated folder.

It works. Don’t understand why.

Now problems with bookmarks.

Many thanks.

I also thought that Safari wasn’t adding bookmarks to the selected folders. Sometimes I’d even make another attempt. Bookmarks that I carefully, and clearly, selected to be kept in selected folders, just weren’t showing up where they were supposed to be, and where they have always been added for some 20 years. At the bottom of the list of bookmarks, in a selected folder.

And then out of frustration, I did a thorough search for those evasive, newly added bookmarks.

And then I located them, but they weren’t being added to the bottom of the list of bookmarks in selected folders, but were being added to the top of the list of bookmarks in the selected folder.

Really throws a monkey wrench into my bookmark arrangement preferences.

Now I’ll have to manually reorganise the newly added bookmarks, in effected folders.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening again?

Salutations J Soap,

To help us help you, can you tell us more about what happens when you try to add a bookmark? Is the option to add a bookmark missing? If it is there and you attempt to add a site, where does it attempt to add the bookmark? Favorites, Bookmarks or somewhere else?

We’d also like to have you attempt to manage your bookmarks and you can do that a couple ways. The following article goes over one of them under the section, ‘Manage bookmarks’ - Bookmark webpages that you want to revisit in Safari on Mac

1. In the Safari app on your Mac, click the Sidebar button in the toolbar, then click Bookmarks.
2. Control-click a bookmark or folder.
3. Choose from the shortcut menu to do one of the following:
• Rename or edit a bookmark or folder. You can also force click the name, or click and hold the name until it’s highlighted and then enter a new one.
• Edit a bookmark’s website address (URL).
• Copy or delete a bookmark or folder.
• Create a bookmark folder.
• See detailed folder contents.
To edit a bookmark’s description, double-click a folder in the sidebar, then Control-click the item and choose Edit Description.

You can also manage bookmarks by choosing Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks.

Could the bookmarks you’re attempting to add be going to a folder or section you’re not expecting?

Thanks.
