Hi everyone - asking a question to figure out some options.
My friend is currently in Guatemala traveling and has lost their phone.
They were wondering if they bought an iPhone in Guatemala (or possibly a flip phone), if when they return to the U.S., it would still be functional to use. Does anyone have any insight into this?
If they are not planning on residing in Guatemala I would suggest they buy a cheap flip phone and use it and wait to get an iPhone when they return to wherever they reside full time. The warranty on an iPhone is tied to the country where it is purchased.

It shouldn't be a problem with use, although the biggest issue might be a carrier lock. Not sure what the availability of "SIM free" iPhones would be in Guatemala.
The primary issue might be the availability of replacement devices and possibly repair. There shouldn't be a reason why you can't get a battery or front screen replacement, but the warranty validity might be an issue.
