What's the likelihood of transferring possibly infected files? Should I buy antivirus/malware.....Etc software for my Mac before transferring files from my pc to my MacBook Pro running Monterey? Threats were found on my pc and supposedly removed by an expert. I'm not techy and I'm afraid to transfer files and photos now. Any suggestions?
Macs are not affected by viruses. However, they can be by malware/adware. If, any of the PC files are "infected" with the latter type, they can potentially, "infect" your Mac as well.
I do not recommend any antivirus apps for your Mac. They tend to cause more issues, then resolve them. It is important to understand that macOS has a number of built-in security measures, including malware protection. However, if you want to go the "extra step," I suggest that you take a look at Malwarebytes for Mac as the only additional app to use for this purpose.
