My husband and I are using the same ICloud account and are sharing our text, photo's, etc. How can we stop sharing? Does he need his own ICloud account?

Yes. iCloud Accounts should not be shared if you want to keep things separate. Each person needs to have their own account.

Apple IDs in general should not be shared. If you want to keel sharing purchases you can use Family Sharing instead.
