Mail Will not Fetch since iOS 15.4 Update

I finally broke down and purchased an iphone 13 and viola’ my mail is working fine. Although my chip is gone in my iphone XS it still works on WiFi but the mail fetch/push still doesn’t work (no surprise here and yes I tried it in both modes with no apparent changes). Im beginning to think they’re just pushing y’all to do the same. I am handing in the XS for a buy back so the new 13 is not a really big lift. I just hate that apple screws up their old phones to force us to move on to the next generation.

I did find this may help in the meantime..

For some reason the Notifications for mail were turned off and set to badges only.

Go to Settings > Notifications > Mail > Customise Notifications

Select the account in question

Ensure 'Alerts' is checked. (I have four Gmail accounts and they were all toggled off, I assume during the update?)

I sent a test email and it came through within 9 minutes with the notification popup.

Hope it is something as simple as this, but I doubt it.

If it’s happening on a 13 you are one unlucky user and I feel for you. Apple needs to figure this out before it becomes systemic. Not sure why it failed on my XS to and succeeded on my 13? Like they said in the Toyota commercial- “Oh what a feeling”.

This ended up fixing the issue for me. I don't even have to reboot anymore. Hopefully it will fix for some others.

Go to Settings > Notifications > Mail > Customize Notifications

Select the account in question

Ensure 'Alerts' is checked.

Reboot.

I update over cell service. I found a website that talked about Focus Mode causing issues with the mail app. I turned off Focus and my email immediately started working again. I seem to recall focus mode was introduced for iOS 15. I am checking see if this might be a cause.

There is definitely a glitch with the Focus Mode and the DND (Do Not Disturb) since this update.

I solved the problem when I realized that the Alert tab was turned off on my iPad. I turned it back on, did a reboot and now my iPhone is fetching emails again every 30 minutes like before.

It looks like the iPhone is not fetching emails if the iPad connected to it is not configured exactly the same way...

I tuned Focus off on both my iPhone (XS) and my iPad Air and since the update of a few days ago my iPhone is now fetching mail from my ISP every 15 minutes.

I don't know how to get it to use Push mail from my domain ISP (pair.com). Maybe only iCloud mail can be 'pushed'?

Since upgrading my iPad to v 15.6 a few days ago it seems to have fixed the problem. Fingers crossed.

Hopefully it isn't just the short term fix following the reboot. The release notes for this version don't mention a fix - so as far as Apple are concerned the problem never existed!

iPad Pro iOS 15.6 I found this particularly irritating as i sort emails on my phone as they come in and don’t want to wade through hundreds of emails on my iPad just to find 1. I believe I’ve fixed it on my iPad, that is to say it is syncing all folders as i change or move them both on my phone and via the web browser. My solution is to make sure imap was enabled in the gmail settings. I then went into the mail >settings>account>SMTP on the iPad and added a new secondary server. Hostname is smtp.gmail.com, then i entered the details it asks for (the username does not need the @gmail.com) use SSL, password authenticate, port 587. Make sure to enable the server. So far the email is updating folders, sending email and receiving emails. It appears the port number has some thing to do with it. With the primary server (465) i cannot change this. I would be interested if someone else could confirm this fix.

This fixed my manual fetch, I must amend some of the settings which also fixed the fetch as well, i left the username and password empty and changed the authentication to HTTP MD5 Digest. It comes up wth all ticks and fetch new emails straight away. I will check over the next couple of days to confirm it continues to work.

Hi. Yes.. I am very surprised too. Since my phone updated to IOS 15.6, mine too has begun working properly. I haven't had to turn it off in 3 weeks. I am amazed. I am hoping it has finally been corrected. Let's hope that as we go into IOS 16, things will continue to be smooth!
