Screen brightness too dark and can’t be adjusted

At first I thought my screen was just black, but then I noticed the faintest symbol of the login screen. The touch bar was showing only the esc button so I wasn’t able to adjust the brightness, but I was able to click around blindly until I could login. Once logged in the brightness display was available on the Touch Bar, but turning the brightness all the way up made no difference. The screen still looks black until I shine a bright light on it. I can’t see the cursor to open settings. Is there a fix for this?

Hi GirlFriday91,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities today about your MacBook Pro. It sounds like you have tried changing the brightness settings already.

Checking the brightness levels is the first step found in If your Mac display is dark. There are a few more suggestions that may or may not fit your situation.

If you have more than one monitor connected:

• Verify that your Mac can support the type and number of connected displays: To check if your Mac is capable of supporting the type and number of displays connected to it, go to the Apple Support Tech Specs website, search for and choose your computer model, then scroll to Graphics and Video Support.
Check cables: Make sure that the cables that run between your Mac and the display are securely connected.

You may want to see if your MacBook Pro qualifies for the 13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program, this link will help you to determine if it's eligible.

If you still need help, you will want to reach out to Apple Support by going to Get Support.

Take care!
