DvD Player not working with Apple TV

We are using an external DvD Player to play videos on our MacBook Pros. I'm on MacOS Monterey 12.3. My wife on 12.1. DvD Player works just fine until we attach a 2nd display (Apple TV). We can hear the sound coming faintly from the TV but there is no video. In addition the desktop screen of DvD Player (either windowed or full screen) is grey. You can see the menu bar but no video.

Is there any way to use an Apple TV as a secondary display with DvD Player

Apple DVD Player app doesn’t allow AirPlay, nor any other screen capture method.

For DVD playback use with a TV set, use a DVD player set top box. Not a Mac with a DVD drive via the home network.

For DVD playback use with a Mac, use a wired external monitor with HDCP compliancy, not Apple TV.

AppleTV is audio/video out only via HDMI as well as audio jack if present.

DVD players the same thing, HDMI out.

Most TVs are HDMI in on multiple ports.

So you use your remote on your TV to adjust its HDMI input via an Input button for the TV to switch between AppleTV and DVD.

Sometimes the AppleTV remote when activated will also switch the TV automatically to the AppleTV input.
