Volume turns up on Bluetooth connection

How can I set my iPhone to keep the volume on the minimum setting when I connect to headphones via Bluetooth?

Full story: I have a pair of Bose noise cancelling earbuds. I connect them to my phone via Bluetooth. When I have nothing connected, I have the volume of my iPhone SE (2nd model, 2020) set at minimum. I also set it at minimum every time I use the earbuds via Bluetooth. However, every time I reconnect them via Bluetooth, it turns the volume up to about 3/4 of full volume. This is deafeningly loud for me!

Hi robertareads,

We understand wanting to be able to adjust the volume for your Bluetooth earbuds, and we're happy to help you out. Let's try setting the Reduce Loud Sounds and see if this is what you are looking for.

Found in Use headphone audio level features on iPhone, try these steps: Reduce loud headphone sounds in Settings1. Go to Settings , then tap Sounds & Haptics (iPhone 7 and later) or Sounds (earlier models).2. Tap Headphone Safety.3. Turn on Reduce Loud Sounds, then drag the slider.iPhone analyzes your headphone audio and reduces any sound above the level you set.The Headphone Safety screen, showing the number of headphone notifications sent in the last 6 months, the button for turning on or off the Reduce Loud Sounds setting, a slider for changing the maximum decibel level, and the selected decibel limit of 85 decibels.Note: If you set up Screen Time for family members, you can prevent them from changing the Reduce Loud Sounds level. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Reduce Loud Sounds, then select Don’t Allow.

Also, you may want to check and see if there are settings for the Bose earbuds by going to Bose Product Support.

Have a great day!

Hi, thank you for your reply. I have already done this, and it makes no difference. The volume turns up to 3/4 of the full volume whenever the Bluetooth connects to the headphones. Is there anything else I can try?

I have tried changing every single setting in the Bose app, with no joy. I haven’t contacted Bose customer support yet though.

You're most welcome, robertareads,

To help us isolate this behavior further, do you notice this happening with a specific app?

Do you have any other Bluetooth devices you can connect to test the volume level?

If you have a case on your iPhone, does the volume still increase when you connect your headphones after the case is removed?

What happens if you disable Wi-Fi in Settings > Wi-Fi then connect your headphones?

We look forward to your reply.

Cheers!
