Panasonic Lumix FZ300 and Image Capture

Before I got this camera, which arrived yesterday, I was assured by Panasonic that photos from it could be downloaded to my hard drive via Image Capture, as I've been doing for years with my Canon PowerShot SX60. However, Image Capture does not recognize the new device when I plug it in. I must resort to using my SD card and then moving photos from the Photos app onto my hard drive into the camera's folder on my hard drive so I can then, using Photoshop Bridge, decide which to keep and which to discard. Is there any way to instruct Image Capture to recognize my new Panasonic Lumix FZ300? (Panasonic has not responded yet to my website request.)

Hi

Make sure you are connecting the camera in PC mode:

If that does't help, then if you plug the memory card into a reader you should be able to use the image capture app to transfer directly from the USB card to a folder on your hard drive without going through photos app.

A GREAT UPDATE:

I tried again, plugging the USB directly into my computer rather than a hub, and IT WORKED! I've got my photos from LUMIX directly into the folder I want them to go into on my hard drive. The only thing I must remember is to then properly eject the LUMIX icon before proceeding. Thanks for that excellent tip about setting the USB Mode to PC, which I never would have thought of myself, since I'm an Apple gal.

I am having the same camera, mimeo, and I love it.

But I do not bother to connect the camera directly - I prefer to insert the card into the card reader slot of my Mac. The problem with connecting the camera to the Mac is, that the transfer may be interrupted, if the battery in the camera is weak, this will result in "Disk not ejected properly" messages; also the Mac may be reading different timezones for the photos then when importing from the card.

Have you considered to download from the camera via the local network? I tested this a few times to avoid taking out the card, but I found it too involved, as the timezone of the camera clock needs to be the same as timezone in the System Preferences on the Mac. That is error prone.

I'm afraid that didn't work for me, Tony. I set the USB Mode to PC, and used the USB cable, and for a brief moment Image Capture saw the LUMIX card, but then I got a popup notice that "Disk Not Rejected Properly_Eject LUMIX before disconnectfing or turning off" (which I did not do!) and the icon disappeared from my hard drive, which is not a good thing. Yes, I can use my SD card to download, but it's nowhere near as simple as using Image Capture, the app I've used for many years and which never caused a problem. I also don't like having to open the door to retrieve the SD card and put it into the computer and then take it out and put it back into the camera. I often shoot at different times during the day and don't want to have to do that. Is there another suggestion you can make to get Image Capture to read the file before it disappears, please?+++
