Spinning Pizza and iPhone Music Sync Woes

My iPhone kept getting stuck on the "choosing songs to sync" stage (and/or not ejecting the phone and showing the pizza), so I bit the bullet and followed @TuringTest2 solid suggestions:

  • reinstalled the OS (Monterey OS 12.3) on my Mac Mini M1
  • wiped my phone's music library
  • Reset my iPhone
  • Run Disk Uitlity's First Aid app
  • Rebooted the equipment

Good news: the "choosing songs to sync" message is gone

Bad news: Now the spinning circle next to the iphone icon in the Finder window won't stop spinning -- even if the phone is not plugged in. And the iPhone's Finder window (that is, when I click on the Mac's Finder window icon) is completely blank.

It's as if the Finder can't let go of the iPhone connection -- or make the handshake.

Ideas? All welcome ...

I wonder if you have set up and need to turn off Wi-Fi syncing.

TT2,

Thanks for your suggestions (+ my apologies for not responding sooner).

  • I did have wifi syncing checked. I unchecked it once the screen came up (see below), rebooted both Mac and iPhone, nothing changed.
  • Uninstalled Music app again from iPhone; rebooted then added fresh version. Rebooted Mac, plugged in iphone. White screen came up.

Biggest issue: getting the iPhone disconnected - that is not showing in the Finder - from the Mac. Restarted several times and the pizza still spinning. Sometimes the Finder iphone screen is totally white; other times the controls show (see attachments).

Tried to start in safe mode, but can't figure it out - option doesn't appear after shut down, 10 sec wait, reboot w/Shift key enabled (either during startunp sequence or once recovery screen displays)

I really appreciate help with this -- esp after seeing how many messages you're sending/responding to daily. You must be the James Brown of the Apple community!
