Safari jumps to the top of the previous page

YES - THIS thank you so very much, works for me too! Someone please alert Apple Care, they should have been able to tell me this but after numerous discussions with various techs the only solution they came up with was to factory reset my phone which I opted not to do. Thank you for this solution and I will spread the word!!

BYW just got off the phone with Apple Support and informed them of this fix (thanks again) - the response was Apple never recommends a third party app to customers even though they may know the fix as in this case. Just wow. SMH 🤬

Yes being that there are 10 pages of features and they all have code names it's impossible to tell which is the problem. On the phone with Apple "kicked-up" tech support right now. Will let you know if they can find it but I'm not really feeling encouraged. So far they wanted to have me move the search bar to the bottom of the page and we know that's only a haphazard fix AND I hate the search bar at the bottom. They need to contact the people who code these experimental features to find out what's causing it.

Yes - and Apple Care is very reluctant to share this information, you were lucky to get it. I switched to GoogleChrome and all is working flawlessly.

research the history between Google and Apple. I did today. When they were friends Safari didn’t jump to the top of the page. They are now rivals more than friends and we have a faulty Safari as a result. Go figure.

Nick - you can’t always get what you want … but seriously, if we all start using Google Chrome maybe Apple will have some incentive to fix Safari?

I just don't get the complaint about Google in this circumstance:

Safari isn't a self standing browser

Like it or not, Safari uses Google for searches unless you change the search browser setting to one of four other browsers it offers. And I don't like any of them as an alternative.

Go to Settings>Safari>Search Engines.

There are only five options and Google is the first one. SAFARI SUBCONTRACTS GOOGLE for its searches!

However, as a functioning interface…Safari’s features are preferred by Nicholas and many others. Chrome simply doesn’t have features that I find workable. No Reader for example…🙏🏾

I have to agree, bottom line, I would like Safari to work the way it did which is why I'm going to go thru with another callback from tech support on Tuesday and then who knows? Maybe eventually we'll be able to get to someone who can actually change things back the way they were. Can only keep at it.

Maybe it needs an ios update.

In the meantime the only two workarounds that work seem to be moving the search bar to the bottom (which is my least favourite) or using Google.

I’m experiencing the same issue, but I don’t generally use the back button - I swipe to go back to the previous page. Very annoying having to scroll back down through numerous news articles or Google search results you’ve already seen to find the place you left off.

It’s an issue between Google and Apple who are no longer fast friends, they have each pulled back the benefits they once brought to the table. Apple brought the reader view to Google, and Google brought the jumpless search. Together they made their respective browsers the best of the best. Sadly they have had a falling out and taken their toys and gone home. Patiently waiting for them to make peace.

Well, I spoke too soon. Turning off “Preload Top Hit” worked when I opened a browser page and tried it. However, when I opened a second browser page and tried it, the same problem occurs - returns to top of the page, rather than where I left off.

I have had this problem for a while now I’m not sure where it started because I just got a new iPhone in October of last year and it started after I got this phone but not right away. Anyway, I have searched and searched and searched often on and most everything I had seen I had tried or I need it wouldn’t work or people had said it didn’t work after they saw it posted.

Then I saw this post in searching again to try my best to alleviate this very annoying problem and your suggestion work like a charm. So far I’ve only tested a couple times but so far it seems to work like a charm so thank you for taking the time to post it here!

Only happens to Safari. And while I'm here, you need to fix this other problem. Every time I leave this page and come back, I'm asked for my Apple ID again. That's ridiculous, just to read these comments.

I confirm as well. That’s so weird that this bug exists since iOS 15 and has not been fixed yet. I hate the bar on bottom (new design) versus top (old design) but I’ll have to deal till Apple fixes it. Any updates or news from apple with your bug report?

Can confirm the same issue here. It’s been happening likely since a late iOS 15 update however, I just left with it. Finally became fed up with it today and searched, found this post.

it’s crazy to me that this has been going on for as long as it has with no explanation or fix from Apple. I’d hoped it was as easy as coming here and someone saying ‘oh change this setting.’, not a need for a workaround. But here we are.
