I’m ready to install macOS Monterey and it is asking for a login password for an administrator. I’ve tried my Apple ID and my Mac air login password and neither works. What password is it asking for?
You have to be an admin user on the Mac to be able to do what you want.
System Preferences > User & Groups. Highlight yourself; right under your user name will be "Admin" if you are an Admin user.
Your PW is the one you use to log in and not the iCloud/Apple ID PW

Ku4hx, thank you for your response to my problem. I followed your instructions and highlighted my name with admin underneath. I tried to use my Apple ID that I recently changed and used on several occasions since, but Apple password would not work. I’m completely out of ideas.
