iCloud

Are the Pictures, Music, and Movies folders backed up to the iCloud (I have two TB of storage)?

Apple offers iCloud Backup for iPhones and iPads but not for Mac computers.

It is possible to sync data from a Mac to iCloud if you turn on those options (e.g., iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive including the Desktop & Documents option). Syncing has some of the benefits of a backup (and the benefit of being offsite) but is not the same as a backup. Major differences include the fact that not everything on your Mac can be synced and the fact that if you delete something, accidentally or otherwise, there is only a limited time period (30 days in most cases) during which it can be recovered.

Thanks for the insight FoxFifth.

You bare correct and I realize the synch is a much more accurate description than back-up. I don't understand however why the root folders of iCloud ignore Movies, Music, and Pictures if they are being synched in the same manner as Documents, Desktop, and Apps. Is there a significant user difference between the way the iCloud default folders are managed and the Synch items such as Movies, Music, and Pictures?

Thanks again for your prompt response FoxFifth,

I keep some stuff in both folders such as a .numbers file including all the details of the 8,016 tunes that I own. Apparently I need to create a separate Music folder for stuff like that or "Photos to be Imported" if I want a secure back-up then. Looks like I should head back to Dropbox and downgrade my Apple 2TB iCloud storage back to 200GB rather than paying both companies for one service. Am I wrong?
