“on my ipad” keep from backing up to icloud

I want to store some large documents in my files app not in the “cloud drive” but “on my iPad” and I don’t want this to stop my iPad from backing up to my 50gb iCloud storage. These files are very small to my 500gb iPad but way to large for my iCloud storage.

There’s no means to exclude specific files or a specific directory from an iPad backup.

If not stored on iCloud, and if not backed up to iCloud when the iPad gets backed up, you’ll need to stash those files somewhere else.

Stashed on another storage service somewhere else, or stored on a flash device connected to the iPad, maybe.

Or back up the iPad to a local Mac or Windows computer, if that’s an option.
