Cannot send mail

I am using Apple Mail on High Sierra and I have two mail accounts - one with BTinternet and one with a commercial domain provider. The BT account works fine as does the web-based mail of the "other one".

On the "other one" I can receive but not send. The connection doctor shows that the POP and SMTP accounts are connected, but I am asked to select another server (Relay not permitted). When I edit the SMTP settings (e.g. port settings, password, TLS/SSL,etc) I end up with another SMTP server with the same name. I have even removed the mail account completely and re installed it with the SP's recommended settings - all to no avail

Yahoo App password…

Generate and manage third-party app passwords

Some older, third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a long, randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You’ll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your third-party email app.
