USB-flash-drives crashes Finder and Disk Utility.

Hey,

For a few days now, USB-drive that previously ran without any problems on my MacBook M1 Pro have been crashing the Finder and Disk Utility, so I have to "hard" remove the drive every time.

The problem occurs mainly with storage media that contain data, as well as sticks with USB-A, which I use with USB-C adapters, and also "block" drives that otherwise run perfectly.

Devices: MacBook M1 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro, iPad Pro.

OS Versions: All up to date.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.3

Hey there, sajbot,

It sounds like you are having trouble with USB devices connected to your MacBook Pro via USB-to-USB-C adapters. Based on the information you provided about that issue, we suggest using the steps outlined in If a USB device doesn’t work with Mac - Apple Support, which were designed to troubleshoot issues with USB devices on your Mac.

You mentioned that Finder and Disk Utility become unresponsive, or even close unexpectedly, while using the USB drives. To troubleshoot that, we would also suggest using If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support.

Enjoy your weekend.
