External Webcam not working with Apple MacBook Pro 16 inch M1

Hi, I was looking at using my external Logitech webcam yesterday, however when I plugged it in the webcam wasn't seen.

I done the checking you would expect, plugged it into my previous non M1 MacBook Pro and it worked fine. I also tried a few different apps such as Skype, MS Teams, FaceTime, etc but alas the webcam still wasn't seen.

Any ideas? I checked System Preferences and couldn't see it there under the privacy access either.

Apple has no subversive agenda and is not responsible for third-party hardware products. When you visit Logitech's site for their webcams you will likely see either Windows, or Mac and Windows intention for the hardware, and in the case of macOS, Logitech may suggest macOS 10.nn or later, but where does that clause validate their product for subsequently released Apple hardware?

Let's pick on the Logitech C920s webcam. Compatibility: macOS 10.10 or later. Does this mean that the device was last tested with Yosemite, or compatible with Apple Silicon? Only Logitech knows, or someone that is content with a leap of faith. I happen to have the original C920 Pro HD webcam and it does work when connected to my 2021 16-in MBP M1 Pro (12.3.1) via a USB-A to USB-C dongle.

Hi Todd,

The webcam in question is a top of the range Logitech one and I've used it for a while with MacBooks and Microsoft laptops with no problems. Does this really mean that we have to start looking at buying different hardware because some aren't supported by Apple Silicon!? Its bad enough having to deal with software issues due the the machine being ARM64 without having to look at shelling out money to buy replacement hardware too.

I'm wondering if this is Apple plans to take over the world! Bring out a laptop whereby everyone has to buy new hardware and software which is supported.... Then start bring out 'Apple' versions of webcams, displays, hard drives, software, etc...
