Hi,
I'd like to connect my MacBook Pro (14", M1 Max) to an external monitor and use it in clamshell mode. The display I've chosen only has 65W power delivery. I realise that this won't charge the M1 Max as fast as the 96W adapter that it came with, but is it enough to keep the computer topped up and able to turn on in clamshell mode, as I know it needs to be connected to power in this mode?

Your display will need to be connected to a power source. The information from the following page outlines the requirements to use your Mac with the built-in display closed, while using an external display: Connect a display to your Mac
Connect your display
Connect your display to power, then connect your display to your Mac. Check the ports on your Mac to find out whether you need an adapter. If you're using a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter to connect your display, the adapter must be compliant with DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt / USB 4.
If you use an external keyboard and mouse with your Mac notebook, you can close the built-in display after you connect your external display. You might have to press a key or click your mouse to wake the external display.
If your external display doesn't turn on after you connect it to your Mac, connect your display while your Mac is off, then wake or turn on your Mac.
