„Fixed position volume controls” not showing in the iPad settings

Hi! I bought the new iPad Air (5th gen) and it came with pre-installed iPadOS 15.4 and whenever I rotate the device, my volume buttons flip. Apple theoretically offers the option to turn that feature off by going to SETTINGS>SOUNDS>”FIXED POSITION VOLUME CONTROLS”. The problem is, the option doesn’t show up in my settings. I tried updating the iPad to iPadOS 15.4.1, but nothing has changed.

Additionally, I asked my friend who also has iPad Air, but 4th gen to check if it’s only my problem and he had that option.

Can you guys help? That constant flipping is so annoying.

We have an iPad Air 5 and iPad Pro 11 2021 (M1). The Fixed Position Volume Controls are present on my Pro 11, but are missing on the Air 5. I too called and asked Apple and all they could tell me was they removed them on the Air 5 on purpose with iPadOS 15.4.1. The Air 5 is almost always in a Brydge Max + keyboard case just as the iPad Pro 11 is in a Brydge Max + case. So, I agree it makes no sense to not let the user decide to lock the volume control buttons in the direction the customer prefers.

So, I used the feedback link and let Apple know this seems an odd, at best decision.

Yeah I already went and put in Feedback myself. My iPad is always on a Magic Keyboard and it is really annoying to have the buttons like that.

I believe the support person I talked to said it is no longer an option on Air Gen 5 and Mini Gen 6 and everything else going forward.

We have a Gen 4 Air and Gen 5… one can and the other can’t which is really annoying.
