Pasted image in iMessage shows no color on iPad

I copied and pasted an image from Safari into an iMessage on my iPad Mini, but the pasted image doesn’t look like the original. In fact, the boxes in the image below are supposed to be in color. However, the image that syncs to my iPhone is a perfect copy of the original, so what’s going on here? Ideas?

And so they are! The green, yellow and gray show up just fine.

You are clearly describing a Wordle puzzle. Their algorithm uses layers to block out the underlying letters. It’s the object you’re copying, and not Apple’s gear, that is responsible for the behavior you observe.

Yes, it’s a Wordle puzzle answer that I’m trying to share with others. And yes, the underlying letters are supposed to be blocked our IN COLOR as you mentioned. And yes, they do appear in color in my iMessage on my iPhone. However, the image in my iMessage does not appear in color on my iPad even now. I know this looks and sounds strange, but believe me, what I see on my iPad is not in color at all. Still puzzled!
