iPad says it’s a 12.9” but it’s really only 11”

So I bought my iPad Pro 12.9” a while back from Costco. Whenever I log in to places it says my iPad is a 12.9” iPad Pro, when I go to “about” it says my iPad is a 12.9” iPad Pro. I paid the price of an iPad Pro as well! HOWEVER I went to buy a case for it and realized the case was WAY too big … I was confused so I went to measure my iPad and come to find out it only measures 11”???

what’s up with that? I’m kind of bummed. I’ve had this thing for a while now I loved it has been through the ringer as you can see the screen is basically shattered but it still works. But I’m a little upset because now I want the 12.9” that I never got …

Like TVs, the “nominal” screen size is measured diagonally.

The dimensions cited in the official specs below seem to correlate closely to the photos you posted.

The 12.9 is a diagonal dimension and is only measured from one corner of the screen ONLY, then diagonally to the opposite corner of the screen ONLY.

On 2018-2021 iPad Pro models, the outer bezels surrounding the screen are thinner than they are on the older 2015-2017 iPad Pro models, which are much wider.

Perhaps you purchased the wrong model/year/generation iPad Pro case.

Sorry.

In terms of cases for iPad Pro 12.9 there are five generations. 1 - 5. You likely purchased a case for the wrong generation iPad Pro 12.9. You should have bought one which specifically says it is for 3rd, 4th or 5th generation. Form the photos you posted, you clearly have an iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd - 5th) generation. For reference, an iPad Pro 11 is 9.5 inches tall, NOT 11 inches tall.
