Why did Apple remove almost 2,000 movies I bought?

I have been buying movies on iTunes for years. I have accumulated about 2.5 thousand films in the purchased films section. After the move, I found that only 707 films were left. What kind of deception is this? Why didn't they warn that buying from Apple is actually Renting?
