Monterey and FileZilla - Failure to connect with SFTP

Further to a previous question about Monterey and SFTP failing to connect with Cyberduck


Dburdick said: "...updated to Monterey and my SFTP has stopped working. I have tried both Transmit and CyberDuck both get a Could not connect to server error. I doublechecked all settings and it is occurring on all SFTP connections. I have the firewall turned off."


For me, it also fails with FileZilla ... I also tried it with Linux, and Windows versions of FileZilla and it failed there too. Further, I did a port scan to make sure that port 22 was open and it was, and SSH was working on the MacMini. I have no firewalls running just like the original poster...


Where to look now?

Well thanks for your suggestion.... that was my thought too. But what perhaps I should have shown was the verbose log between the client and the server. I managed to get someone at the server end by email... They tried from their end with my user name and password and got a similar 'unable to connect' dialogue. Then they asked for my ip addy. It turned out that my ip had accidentally made it to to the black list.


If I had been more careful in my reading, I would have seen a line like: 'server reset connection with no errors' - in other words it happened automatically in spite of the fact that there were no errors. The person I was talking to was able to delete my ip from the blacklist, and everything worked fine after that. How it got there in the first place we don't know.

Thanks... what version of FZ do you have? Mine is 3.58.0 (not the pro version) and my M1 Mini is running 12.2.1 -- so both might well be upgraded if there's a later version of FZ. I just checked for updates on FZ... and it's the latest version. I'll do the OS update to 12.3.1 tomorrow and hope for the best.

Thanks for your response -- About filezilla (third party) support: Since it's the free FZ version, the support consists of their Forum. I've been reading that forum and it's attendant hundreds of 'I can't connect to 'X' using SFTP-SSH ' posts. It's nice to know I'm not alone <g>, but it's a rabbit hole for sure.


My usual approach to troubleshooting is to keep on bisecting the problem in order to reduce the number of variables. Broadly, it's likely it's either a Monterey problem; a CPE problem; or an app problem. Not to mention a combination.


I'm chipping away at all three right now.
