corespotlightd ask a lot of cpu

My Mac has become a snake, pulling all the breaks when rounding a corner: all tasks seem to cause a spinning ball.

looking in activity-monitor I see an intense process: corespotlightd

it seems to have something to doe with spotlight.

All very well, but it consumes ± 70 - 80% cpu.

  • What can be the cause of this?, how do I find out?
  • how do I stop this, it does not seem normal?

running Catalina 10.15.7 (19H1824) in an iMac 27 inch late 2013

HELP!! please?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

Give Spotlight some time and it should finish Indexing your drive.

The time to index can very depending on the amount of data and drive speed.

Plus indexing USB external drives, can take even longer.
