I have a single contact with a bell and a diagonal slash below the right-pointing arrow whenever she sends me a text. I have tirelessly been through the settings to understand why she, out of all contacts, is the only one that doesn't

"chime" me when text is received by my phone.

Can anybody reply to this positively?

You may have accidentally muted that particular text conversation.

Open the Messages app and ensure that you are looking it at the conversation list. Find the conversation that has the bell and the arrow through it. TOUCH that conversation and DRAG your finger to the LEFT. This will reveal the BELL and TRASH icons. Tap on the BELL icon and that will resolve the issue that you are facing related to that conversation.
