iTunes Digital Album Booklets.

I have read a few of some similar iTunes Digital Booklet posts on Apple Support. iTunes offers digital booklets with some of its purchases, for which I am grateful. However, I have uploaded all my CDs to my iTunes library. Nearly all of the CDs came with a booklet of some sort — a booklet with individual pages, or merely a few, and or, long foldout pages.

I have copied nearly all of my CD booklets, by scanning them and uploading them to the corresponding album, mostly using Adobe Photoshop to create the JPEGs then converting them to individual PDFs, then creating a PDF booklet with (Apple) Preview. (I think you can also use Apple Pages, but this isn’t as versatile as Photoshop). I upload the completed digital booklets to my iTunes library, then look in “Recently Added” — the new digital booklet can be found there and I add the correct titles and information after clicking “Get Info”.

I had to recreate quite a few of the CD booklets as my CD collection was partially destroyed in a house fire, courtesy of an idiot renovator/builder. I found some of references to the damaged booklets on various internet websites, (I wish there were more)! As many online music downloads do not come with booklets, but do with CDs, I recreate the booklets as close to the original release as possible, then upload it to be incorporated with the new purchased download.

The problem being: When I purchased my new iMac desktop, I naturally had to retrieved my entire iTunes library from a back-up drive. Only a few digital booklets uploaded to my new iTunes. The majority of the booklets and even the iTunes purchased booklets did not upload. I had to upload more the 2000 booklets individually, A MAMMOTH TASK!

How can I keep them there if I need to upgrade to a new iMac in future? Maybe a feature that can be designed into the next iTunes software update???

Thanks for reading — any suggestions?

See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community. When you move the library correctly all attached content, including digital booklets, should come too.

You may need to read my user tip more carefully. Key is that your backup or transfer method includes the Music Library.musiclibrary database (formerly iTunes Library.itl) so that when restoring or moving the library you include this file, rather than importing your files from the media folder into an otherwise empty library. Setting your media folder doesn't change which database is used, and it would seem importing the media folder doesn't add in digital booklets.

Yes the booklets should come, but this isn't always the case. My entire library is on a seperate dedicated drive which holds the iTunes folder. (This is also backed up on another drive — in my experience, one cannot be careful enough).

The problem is: If you're once trusty old iMac breaks down and is impossible to repair, an upgrades is necessary. Recovery of the the iTunes library must come from the drive that it already resides on. Once the preferences have been set on the iMac's new drive the old library is added as is, (in other words, there is absolutely know change). The booklets do not upload with the albums.

I tried this twice and wasting two days as the library took quite a few hours to transfer. The first upload did not have the booklets, neither did the second upload. I cut my losses and and added them one at a time. This took a few weeks.

Yes I did read it carefully and I agree with you, it should have worked. I should have mentioned that when my last iMac broke down, it was pretty old and it could only be updated to OS Mojave. My new iMac came with OS Monterey loaded. Which I suspect caused the incompatibility.

From all the research I did, plus the advice from our excellent local Mac dealer (Apple Crumble) and repairs this was the most likely reason the database would not upload. That is the explanation I’m sticking to so I could quell my frustration.

Incidentally, I did make copies of the full database and all my different playlists. No matter how much I tried they would not upload to my new iMac. I had previously copied them in their “iTunes” form and doubled up by also using an App called “Playlist Export” to make copies.

I don't think there are many iTunes users who bother about booklets, but as I put a lot of effort in recreating them, I hope Apple will take us meagre few into consideration in future iTunes updates? Thank you for all the help and guidance, it is much appreciated.
