I want to mount a TV or other external monitor in a portrait orientation and mirror an iPhone to this screen via the lightning to HDMI output adapter. However, when I do this the video is sideways because the monitor doesn’t have any direct control of the video feed.
is there a way to rotate the output over HDMI by 90 degrees so that the portrait video takes up the full portrait-oriented monitor it’s connected to?

Is your external monitor also oriented in a portrait fashion?
I’m trying to make better use of the monitor. By turning the monitor 90 degrees, in theory I should not have massive letterboxing on the left and right edges of the screen and the picture could be larger.

Portrait Mode orientation on my iPhone is displayed as Portrait mode on my External Monitor (Samsung) connected through an HDMI Cable. I am not very clear about what your difficulty is or what you are seeing or expecting to happen?
