Dictation on iPad and iPhone - any recent updates?

Dear all,

I apologize if this question has been asked. I have seen a couple of threads on this topic, but they are rather old.

I am a writer and would like to dictate relatively large parts of text (say, one page at a time). I usually use Notes ot Notes Plus app. On my iPad Pro 11 inch dictation mode switches off by itself after about 30 sec, does not matter if I talk non-stop or make pauses. It happens both with and without Voice control on.

There were many rumours saying that this limit was a natural feature of old iOS and should have been lifted by now, but for me it is still in place - or I am doing something wrong.

Suprisingly, dictation mode seems to last much longer on iPhone 11 Pro, so it must be something in iPad settings, but I can’t figure out what it is.

Thank you for your help!

Hello b3215811,

There's some helpful info regarding dictating text on the iPad here: Dictate text on iPad

The page notes, "You can stop dictation manually, or it stops automatically when you stop speaking for 30 seconds."

However, we see you're noting it stops even if you're still continuously speaking. Try disabling the feature in Settings > General > Keyboard, restart the device, and re-enable it to see if this has helped.

Be sure to also check for any available iPadOS updates, the latest one being iPadOS 15.4.1: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers.

Hello,

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately it does not work. I tried disabling-restarting-enabling and also checked every tip I have found on the internet: enabled Voice control, disabled Screen time, updated to the recent iOS version, even switched on Airplane mode just in case the file is being uploaded on the cloud, and the limitation is due to connection speed. Nothing helps. Dictation lasts exactly one minute and then stops in the middle of a sentence. The input then switches to text keyboard, and I have to press the dictation shortcut on the keyboard again. Very frustrating.

What else can it be??
