Installing update on my iPad

Installing Operating system update

Hi. My wife has a iPad Pro (9.7inc) Model number A1674. She has Operating system number 15.0.0 installed and wants to update to 15.4.1. The download, looks like it has downloaded to her iPad, the software then tries to install but the installation fails. She does makes sure that the iPad is connected connected to power and the charging icon is showing. I have also tried connecting to my iMac but my iMac is not seeing my device within the finder.

Is there a in between download she is missing? As she has 15.0.0 is there 15.0.1 or 15.0.2 or 15.0.3 or 15.0.4 could this be the problem? If so how does she go about updating in those stages?

Please can someone help?

Thank you.

Martin

Hi Martin,

there will not be any manually selectable OS version steps. The iPad’s updating function in communication with Apple servers handles it for you. So an OS upgrade step missing isn’t the issue.

My first quickest suggestion would be to double press the home button/bottom up swipe (depending if you have home button or not) to bring up the open apps. Find the window for settings, swipe that up to close it. Make sure you have a good charge. Make sure you have a good Wi-Fi connection. Now try going back and trying the upgrade again. Your passcode and patience are then needed.

-If that doesn’t work, if you go into settings and check storage, you are close to out of storage?

-if it has failed again, I’d suggest a forced reboot, then try the upgrade process again.

-Remove and download the update again

If you still can't install the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, try downloading the update again:

  1. Go to Settings > General > [Device name] Storage.
  2. Find the update in the list of apps.
  3. Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
  4. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and download the latest update.

If you don't see the update in the list of apps or if the issue happens again, you need to update your device with your computer

Hi Tim.

Thank you so very much for your reply and help. It was Just excellent !!! 😁

So easy to read and follow 👍

It did take me quite a few attempts, shut down, forced shut down, downloading a few more times after deleting, leaving it alone initialising over night, finally connecting to my iMac downloading again and then installing, leaving it connected for most of the day and then eureka, 😁 it was successfully installed and now backed up onto my iMac. 🤩 🥳🥳🎉🎉

Thank you again for your time to read and then reply with your help and advise.
