When I try to add my wife to HomeKit, I lose Admin access

I've tried this 3 times, each time I have to remove the Home & create it over again.

The last time I tried this I made sure that every device has been updated to the current version of the respective OS.

When I try to add my wife, she get's the request, after she accepts it I see my ID in the Home app change to her email address, then I lose Admin access. She never get's added, the App just hangs on her phone. At that point I have to remove the Home & create a new one.

Needless to say, that this can even happen makes me hesitant to want to reply on HomeKit as a Home Automation system. Apple proves no way to backup HomeKit, I've used HomeKit Controller to back it up, but, if you have any 3rd party bridges added restoring from a Home Controller backup is painful.

Can anyone help???

Hello there unixdude,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! Fir this issue with using HomeKit, the good news is we located a thread with the exact same issue and suggest following the same path. Check out this thread for HomeKit Apple ID problem:

"To be sure, are you following the steps listed in Share control of your home? If so, are you're still experiencing this issue, we'd recommend to try restarting both yours and your wife's iPhone and test again: Restart your iPhone.

If the issue continues We recommend that you contact Apple Support directly. Depending on your region, you may be able to reach them here: Get Support."

Have a great day!

It was fun working with Apple support, I screen shard my iPhone while going through the process, when it got to the point where my wife accepted the invite on her iPhone an we both watched as the Home App on my iPhone changed me to Resident from Owner & then changed my AppleId in it to hers! Hopefully an engineer with access to logs, etc will quickly see what the issue is.
