I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro. I am trying to clean some of the duplicate files out of my system. Many of those duplicates reside in the deleted users folder having the same user name as the one that I am using.
My question is are the files in the /SomeUser and /Deleted Users/SomeUser folder truly duplicates or do simply reference a file somewhere in the system? Will deleting the Deleted User/SomeUser cause an issues?

That makes sense. Maybe you created an account when starting that 2015 mac for the first time, and then you migrated the one from the 2012.
In all likelihood there will be no problem deleting the unused account, but then again: backup first.

How did that come about? Did you migrate another identical user?
Did you delete a user account from System Preferences->Users & Groups?
Please explain so we can better advise.
FWIW, I think that if you have all your content in your current user, there will be no harm in deleting the folder for the other user.
But PLEASE do make a backup.
I don't remember deleting myself anywhere along the way. It may have happened in the migration process when I went from a 2012 to a 2015 MacBook Pro and continued when I upgraded to my 2021 MBP
