HomePod does not show up a a default device option

I have followed Apple's instructions to set up my HomePod stereo pair as a default output device for my Apple TV HD. I have set up a HomePod (OG) as a stereo pair, created a room called "Main Bedroom" and I have moved the HomePod into that room along with my Apple TV HD. It does not show up as a default device option on either the HomeKit menu or the Apple TV menu. I can choose it as a temporary option but not a default option.

I have restarted everything several times and all devices have the latest updates.

I have seen other post about this issue in various forums but nobody has yet come up with a solution to it.
