How can I stop Music on my laptop from malfunctioning when I add albums bought from other sources?

When I try to import albums not purchased through Apple into Music on my Mac, it consistently puts the the band, album, and song titles for each song on the album in the song title field.

Because of this, none of the tracks group as an album and they all say unknown artist. Also, none of the album artwork gets uploaded, even though it's in the folder I drag and drop into Music.

To have a workable Music Library on my Mac, for every track on every album I don't buy through Apple, I have to go into "Get Info" and manually fix the band/album/song title fields and upload the album cover. It's incredibly time consuming and frustrating.

Is there a setting on my computer or music app that is causing this? I'm on a MacBook Pro 2017, running macOS Big Sur 11.6.5 and it doesn’t look like there are any updates for my Music app (1.1.6.37).

(Note this is not a Bandcamp problem. I download their zips, which open fine into folders and include the artwork that looks fine and tracks that play. When I attempt to upload these to Music, things go wrong.)

I've done a lot of troubleshooting and discovered a glitch by Apple Music - I had downloaded albums as .wav files. In Music, the tracks played just fine but the data (album/band/song) all showed up in the song title field, without cover art.

As an experiment, I just tried downloading one of the albums that had the above problem, but this time with the songs as "mp3 vo." I did the exact same steps as I had when I'd downloaded it as .wav (downloaded the zip, opened the folder, dragged all into Music) and it all transferred in perfectly - all the information is in the right field and the cover art showed up, as it should - effortlessly.

Hopefully Apple can figure out how to get the info for tracks/albums to show up for .wav files bought off of Bandcamp - quite odd because the audio files played just fine, it seems to just be a glitch with the information. Just posting this for anyone else who finds themselves stymied by the same scenario.
