Right Side Menu Bar Icons Disappeared.

I'm using a VERY new machine, just a few months old. Not only that I'm also getting kernel panics shutting down my computer occasionally.

But what I'm trying to fix at the moment is right side menu bar items GONE. Clock, wifi, sound etc etc. I've seen other similar older threads on the issue but solutions haven't worked for me.

I'm using Monterey on a 16 inch Macbook Pro 2019 model.

Anybody had this happen to them *recently*?

Any solutions you found?

Thanks in advance.

1 - Suggest restarting in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

3 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

4 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

5 - Suggest downloading the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor. And Safe to use.

The application is free or paid from added features.

Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ).

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS in-order to replace any modified, altered, removed or corrupted elements of the OS this software has inflected on this computer

Although some or all of these Applications maybe available on the Apple Apps Store, it does not mean Apple has verified what exactly the Application can do, does do or is doing to the Computer. That responsibility is left to the User to perform their due diligence on the Application before purchasing and installing it.

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

This includes AntiVirus, Disk Cleaners, Disk Optimizes, UnInstaller etc.

This will include CleanMyMac , This will include BitDefender

This will included Norton Antivirus , Sophos Av Software

Intego AntiVirus, McAfee, MacKeeper, Avast AntiVirus

Ad Guard, Webroot

Use Control Center on Mac

Control Center on Mac gives you quick access to key macOS system settings—such as volume, brightness, Wi-Fi, or Do Not Disturb. You can customize Control Center to add other items, such as accessibility shortcuts or Fast User switching.

Use Control Center

  1. On your Mac, click Control Center  in the menu bar.
  2. Drag a slider (such as the Volume slider) or click an icon (such as the AirDrop icon). To see more options, click anywhere in an item or click the arrow  on the right.
  3. For example, in Display, drag the slider to adjust the display brightness, or click anywhere in Display to show controls to turn Dark Mode and Night Shift on or off.

Tip: If you often use an item, you can drag it from Control Center to the menu bar, to keep it handy there. To remove the item from the menu bar, press and hold the Command key while you drag the item out of the menu bar.

Customize Control Center

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Dock & Menu Bar.
  2. Click a section in the sidebar to see items that are always in Control Center, or that you can add.
    • Control Center: The items in this section are always shown in Control Center; you can’t remove them. Select an item in the sidebar to see a preview of it in Control Center on the right.
    • Other Modules: You can add the items in this section to Control Center. Select an item in the sidebar, then select the item’s Show in Control Center checkbox.
  1. To include an item in the menu bar for even faster access, select its Show in Menu Bar checkbox.

You can’t add items in the Menu Bar Only section to Control Center.

Thank you for the Etrecheck Report.

Please refer to detailed reply in file attachment

No certain if this report was done before the recent update or after so will work with what is actually in the supplied report.

Q 1 - Kernel extensions present - This computer has kernel extensions that may not work in the future.

A 1 - This maybe the source of some of the computer problems later disclosed in the Report.

Q 2 -   macOS Monterey 12.2.1 (21D62)

A 2 - If the recent update was to current available Monterey 12.3.1 - good no issue. Otherwise it still needs to be updated to 12.3.1

Q 3 -  13 x86-only app

A 3 -  This may be some of the issues. You may investigate updating / upgrading some of these application to more recent versions specifically compatible with Monterey

Q 4 -  /Library/Application Support/VirtualBox   [Not Loaded] VBoxDrv.kext - org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxDrv (6.1.16)

A 4 - VirtualBox maybe not as robust & stable with Monterey as some Other VMs that are for Sale.

Q 5  -  [Running] com.wdc.WD-Discovery.plist (Western Digital Corporation Branded Products Group - installed 2022-04-08)

A 5 - Third Party Software to manage an external drive are not really needed and Especially those that come Bundled with  New External Drives. Their software is very often Buggy at Best and cause many issues.

In this case - suggest removing the Western Digital Software as per their Specific Instructions.

The Apple Builtin Software and Operating System if very capable to Manage External Drives without the Third Party software interferences.

Q 6 - Software Installs (past 60 days):

A 6 - There are certainly a lot of Games and these can be problematic at best. As mentioned early update / upgrade to Monterey compatible is suggested

Q 7 - Diagnostics Information (past 7-30 days):

A 7 - There have been a lot of Core Processes of Monterey that have Crashed as evidenced from the below list. Again - update to current Monterey if not already done, remove Western Digital Software, Investigate more reliable VM Software and the Games update/ upgrades
