How to change the format of all footnotes in a paper at once in Pages for Mac (Pages v 12.0)

I have written a paper in Pages, but I want to change the format for all the footnotes, ie make font smaller and change the font. When I double click on one footnote and change the formatting it does not change the style. How do I alter the style so that they all match and all new footnotes are formatted consistently?
