iOS 15.4.1 mail not loading on iphone

Since the 15.4.1 IoS update, my emails are not arriving on my iPhone 13 pro unless I refresh the mail app. Also, no notification of mail sound. They're also taking an age to sync with my MacBook. I don't where to look in my settings that I haven't already tried, or is it the update and there's nothing I can do other than moan to Apple?

Same here, two map accounts, two different models of phone (iPhone 8 and SE2) both with the same problem since updating to 15.4.1 = Very annoying.

C'mon Apple, this is a basic feature of all smartphones - stop adding more complex stuff and fix the basics.

I’m having the same problem with Mail on iPhone and iPad since the 15.4.1 update. The email appears but the content takes forever to load, and then when I leave the email and go back to it the content has to reload again. It started with my iPhone after the 15.4.1 update and I tried everything recommended including turning off privacy settings, restart and network settings reset, but none of them have worked. My iPad was still working fine. Then with some trepidation I updated my iPad to 15.4.1 just now and the exact same thing has happened. So now I can’t access email properly on either. It appears to be a Wi-Fi issue as my iPhone is fine on the mobile network. I’ve tried restarting the router but that doesn’t work. My iPad only has Wi-Fi so is currently pretty useless for email. I only have Gmail accounts which I access via Mail accounts not Safari, so I don’t know if there’s a compatibility issue with Gmail. This is definitely a 15.4.1 issue though if my experience today is anything to go by.

With the majority of people having no mail problems with 15.4.1 it would be difficult to Apple to "fix" it for the few with individual problems.

The advice is as always

  • Remove any security apps particularly VPN as they are all unnecessary. Check your adblocker is not VPN based.
  • Delete all accounts from Settings, Mail, Accounts.
  • Restart or force restart the phone. Add the accounts back
  • Reset the router to factory settings.

Any remaining slowness is down to your wifi speed or your mail provider

(PS, Aol are a joke)

Interesting but no, that’s not the problem. Emails do arrive eventually and with no content issues. The problem is that they don’t arrive with any notification as they did prior to the iOS update and they only arrive if I go into the Mail app and refresh it. From the send times, some have been in limbo for hours.

Hi, the Privacy protection suggestion is a red herring- you can turn it back on.

The solution for me was really simple ; Power down your phone, leave a couple of minutes and power back on. Both Mail app and AOL app are working again and syncing as usual and notification sounds have returned. Hope this works out for you too. If this had failed for me my last option would have been a restart.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the suggestion, good idea. I’m trying to avoid having the Gmail app on my devices for privacy reasons but might have to either do that or access through Safari, especially on iPad. It’s so unpredictable on WiFi,, one minute the emails are there, the next they’re back to loading. On my phone at the moment I’m switching to mobile network while accessing Mail and trying to remember to switch back.

Thanks again for the helpful hint!

I have the same privacy concerns about the AOL app and only use it on my phone - purely because this isn’t the first time the Mail app has failed. There were problems with it a few years ago.

Coincidentally, I also have an @icloud.com email address and did a test email to it from my aol account- it arrived in Mail app almost instantly and with the notification sound. This was at home on WiFi.

Thank you again for looking out all the links on WiFi, but as with turning off privacy protection, it doesn’t work for my iPhone or iPad, nor does the Apple advice on ‘unable to load remote content privately’. The only thing that does work for me is switching off WiFi on my iPhone and reverting to mobile network but that’s not an option for my iPad. There seemed to be a glitch here with 15.4.1 that Apple isn’t acknowledging or addressing.

Thanks for trying, but that doesn’t solve it. Tried turning off privacy, tried restart, nothing is working, emails take minutes to load into the reader. I’m using the native app, it isn’t a browser issue, and agree with other users that it is related to wifi. My iPad has to use wifi and has the issue, but the phone works fine on data. Only since updating to 15.4.1.

It is happening to me as well. It’s an Apple problem, only way to solve it is for Apple to release a bug fix. Let’s be honest, Apple with never formally admit they broke it. No it is not your WiFi or your LTE connection. I am an IT professional and nothing has changed in my network in about 2 years. If email is time sensitive for you, I would recommended a software that has an outlook on things. Let’s just hope it does not take as long to fix as it did the red icon notification to fix not disappearing, that one took a whole new iOS version.
