iOS 15.4.1 mail not loading on iphone

Since the 15.4.1 IoS update, my emails are not arriving on my iPhone 13 pro unless I refresh the mail app. Also, no notification of mail sound. They're also taking an age to sync with my MacBook. I don't where to look in my settings that I haven't already tried, or is it the update and there's nothing I can do other than moan to Apple?

Using an iPhone 13 Pro + iOS 15.4.1 - this worked for me --

Settings --> Mail --> Privacy Protection --> protect mail activity --> off

Hide IP Address = on

Block all remote content = off

I have not experienced any more mail issues with the above settings.

So after speaking with Apple’s tier one tech who started with the usual turn everything off and on again (like we are all a bunch of idiots who don’t already know the simple things to try) I backed up my iPad to my Mac mini and then wiped it clean and restarted and reloaded my iPad and that fixed the problem! So I’ve come to the conclusion that iOS 15.4 doesn’t do a proper installation from Apple or they have since fixed the installation problems and haven’t said anything about there being a problem! Either way this fixed the problem for me. It has nothing to do with old Apple products as I had the problem with my iPad 11 Pro. As usual it was something with the software.

Hi, the Privacy protection suggestion is a red herring- you can turn it back on.

The solution for me was really simple ; Power down your phone, leave a couple of minutes and power back on. Both Mail app and AOL app are working again and syncing as usual and notification sounds have returned. Hope this works out for you too. If this had failed for me my last option would have been a restart.

With the majority of people having no mail problems with 15.4.1 it would be difficult to Apple to "fix" it for the few with individual problems.

The advice is as always

  • Remove any security apps particularly VPN as they are all unnecessary. Check your adblocker is not VPN based.
  • Delete all accounts from Settings, Mail, Accounts.
  • Restart or force restart the phone. Add the accounts back
  • Reset the router to factory settings.

Any remaining slowness is down to your wifi speed or your mail provider

(PS, Aol are a joke)

It is happening to me as well. It’s an Apple problem, only way to solve it is for Apple to release a bug fix. Let’s be honest, Apple with never formally admit they broke it. No it is not your WiFi or your LTE connection. I am an IT professional and nothing has changed in my network in about 2 years. If email is time sensitive for you, I would recommended a software that has an outlook on things. Let’s just hope it does not take as long to fix as it did the red icon notification to fix not disappearing, that one took a whole new iOS version.

It's not a Gmail problem, it's an Apple problem. I have two completely different providers running IMAP email with the same problem. Mail for these accounts ahas been working reliably since the year dot - on both Apple iPhones / iPads. This problem is since 15.4.1 and (for me) is affecting IMAP (as exchange accounts seem ok). C'mon Apple, what's being done about this?

I've temporarily given up on Mail and am using Spark on which Gmail works just fine. I still use Mail on my MacBook to file emails, but Spark to read and respond to them on my iPhone and iPad. Spark is better designed than Mail in some ways, but I'm still kind of hoping that Apple will realise there's a problem even if it doesn't affect everyone, however can't wait for a solution any longer and it's taking up way too much head space.

I’m having the same problem with Mail on iPhone and iPad since the 15.4.1 update. The email appears but the content takes forever to load, and then when I leave the email and go back to it the content has to reload again. It started with my iPhone after the 15.4.1 update and I tried everything recommended including turning off privacy settings, restart and network settings reset, but none of them have worked. My iPad was still working fine. Then with some trepidation I updated my iPad to 15.4.1 just now and the exact same thing has happened. So now I can’t access email properly on either. It appears to be a Wi-Fi issue as my iPhone is fine on the mobile network. I’ve tried restarting the router but that doesn’t work. My iPad only has Wi-Fi so is currently pretty useless for email. I only have Gmail accounts which I access via Mail accounts not Safari, so I don’t know if there’s a compatibility issue with Gmail. This is definitely a 15.4.1 issue though if my experience today is anything to go by.

Subsequent to my post, I’ve been on the phone to Apple support (Twitter DM seemed to work) but lovely and patient as the advisors are they were unable to resolve. Final advice seemed to be it’s a Gmail problem, contact them. Which I did to no avail of course. Alternative advice if nothing works was to go back to them to remove 15.4.1 with the warning that it might lose data as well as features. It seems pretty clear to me that it is a 15.4.1 issue that presumably only affects certain setups or everyone would be having the problem, but that Apple haven’t yet identified what it is yet or what the remedy is. I’m assuming by this point that it will be resolved by an update - and not using my iPad for email!

Thank you again for looking out all the links on WiFi, but as with turning off privacy protection, it doesn’t work for my iPhone or iPad, nor does the Apple advice on ‘unable to load remote content privately’. The only thing that does work for me is switching off WiFi on my iPhone and reverting to mobile network but that’s not an option for my iPad. There seemed to be a glitch here with 15.4.1 that Apple isn’t acknowledging or addressing.
