Emails on apple mail app taking ages to load

Hi, I have updated my iPad (generation 6) and iPhone SE (old one from 2017] to the most recent IOS (15.4.1) and since doing so it takes ages for my mail to load on my apple mail app. There is a little wheel going round and round as it says loading, sometimes I can make a cup of tea in the time it takes to load. I have tried turning off mail protect in settings but it made no difference. I have logged onto my gmail and outlook email via safari and emails open immediately so it’s. It a problem with my providers and I suspect it’s an Apple issue.

I would prefer to continue using the Apple mail app but if it continues has anyone experienced the same problems with the gmail app? Anyone got any suggestions as to a fix

I’ve also had this same issue since updating to iOS 15.4.1 with my mail taking forever (sometimes not loading at all) on my iPhone XR. However, it fully resolves when I use my cellular data and disconnect from wifi. My wifi works perfectly on my iPhone otherwise (can stream videos, browse internet, etc). I’ve reset my internet router, done all the iPhone resets and uninstalling/reinstalling mail apps with no improvement whatsoever. I don’t want to depend on cellular data every time I need to check my mail when my wifi works fine outside of the mail app.

Hey clairefrompotters bar,

We'll be happy to help out with this issue regarding Mail taking a long time to load.

Have you tried switching networks? This can rule out the issue being with the connection. For example, if you're connected to cellular data, try switching off cellular data and connecting to Wi-Fi only, or vice versa. If you're not sure how to turn off cellular data to connect to Wi-Fi only, follow these steps: Use cellular data on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.

Hello, clairefrompotters.

Definitely keep us updated and in the meantime, check out these articles which has good information when it comes to Wi-Fi networks and connection issues:

To clarify, mobile data and cellular data are the same thing just different names for certain regions.

Best regards.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I tried your suggestion, I turned off my Wi-Fi and connected my iPad to my iPhone using the personal hotspot and the emails did seem to load quicker. I also turned off Wi-Fi on my phone and used my 4G signal and again the emails did open quicker but I don’t know if that was because they had already opened on my iPad.

I didn’t turn off cellular data as I am in the UK so wasn’t sure what that meant ( mobile data maybe?).

let me know if I need to run the test again by turning off mobile data or whether what I did was correct and the next steps.

BTW the emails are still loading quickly when I log into my accounts online so not sure why it’s a connection issue
