Apple Studio Display has "Choppy Audio" from the display speakers

I have a brand new Apple Studio Display connected to a Mac mini with the Thunderbolt cable that came with the display.

It worked great for a couple of weeks.

But then one day, the audio became choppy.

I tried audio from websites and from iTunes. Still choppy audio.

I tried new Thunderbolt cable. Still choppy audio.

I tried playing the audio from the Mac mini speakers. NO Problem.

I tried the display connected to an Intel iMac. Display is OK

I played the audio to my iMac speakers, NO Problem.

I played the audio from the display speakers, Still choppy audio.

I conclude that the choppy audio problem is due to the Studio Display.

Anyone else have this same problem?

I suspect that the problem is the firmware for the A13 Bionic chip inside the apple Studio Display.

How can I fix it?

HELP !!!

I had the same issue. I ended up updating the OS. After restart and installation, there is a separate firmware update available for the display. I read on another forum that you need to wait for the restart countdown to end, as opposed to clicking "restart now" in order for it to work correctly. The firmware update seemed to have fixed the problem for me. No more choppy audio, thank god. Still don't really understand how it can work fine for the first few weeks and then suddenly stop, all while running on the same firmware. Whatever. We paid too much money for these types of glitches to be happening

Thanks for including a web link to the Displays -Apple Community.

I tried to find it but was not able, so that's why I posted on this site.

I may have overlooked it or maybe this website has not yet been updated to include Displays.

Either way, using your link I found it and post my problem there.

Thanks again for the link to the Displays.

"I saw three dots going through a routine when it restarted."

I think that's the Studio Display startup animation. If your second Studio Display didn't do that, I would assume it wasn't unplugged, so it didn't restart.

Maybe Apple could fix it so the Studio Display restarts any time the mac does, or provide another software solution.

The sound and microphone are not working. If I switch between Mac studio speakers and display speakers then they would on the display for about 30 secs. Mac Studio speakers work.

I have unplugged for about 15 secs and did not fix the issue. I will try for a couple of mins.

This is very annoying as I am meant to be in a zoom meeting, Not what I expect from a £1800 monitor!!

Thanks for posting the website info.

Sure took Apple long enough to admit to the problem.

Apple owners who had this problem, read the info on this Support Community and knew what to do.

The Apple "Experts" did NOT. They had Apple owners doing all kinds of unnecessary things.

Apple should be ashamed of itself.

"It just works' said Steve Jobs.

Well, NOT any more.
