Preview won't open .docx files

Since some of the more recent updates on my laptop, I've had issues opening any Word documents on my computer. If I double click, ctrl-O, or even click "Open with Preview" on a .docx file, it will switch to the Preview app without actually opening the document.

I am on the most up to date version of Monterey currently, and I don't remember this being a problem in Big Sur or whatever the previous system was.

Has anyone else had this problem?

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

As mentioned above, Preview can open Word .doc files, not .docx files.

It most definitely opened docx files with Big Sur.. used it daily. Monterey is a no go.

I should have said Preview won't open .docx files for me in High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur or Monterey.

Hey wow, that's really interesting regarding quick look... I just tried that and yes, it worked (12.4) but nope, they won't open as such in Preview.

That just makes all the more strange.

Then start you own Question with the details and reliable information.

Doing so, will probably get more personalized and individual responds specific to this computer issue

On my Mac, I get options of Open with Word, Preview, Pages and TextEdit.
