Universal Control iPad time out error

When I try to establish Universal Control between my iMac and my iPad Pro, I get an error message

"Unable to Connect to 'iPad Pro' The device timed out."

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) MacOS Monterey 12.3.1

Universal Control is checked in the Displays control panel.

iPad Pro (10.5-inch) iPadOS 15.4.1

Cursor and Keyboard is switched on.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

iMac 27″, macOS 12.2

Hey there chucksav,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. If having issues with using Universal Control on your iMac and iPad Pro, do you meet the additional requirements that are listed below:

Additional requirements
• Each device must be signed in with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication. Universal Control does not support Managed Apple IDs.
• Each device must be within 10 meters (30 feet) of each other and have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff turned on.
• Your iPad must not be sharing its cellular connection and your Mac must not be sharing its internet connection.

You can find these steps, and more details on setting up and using Universal Control here: Universal Control: Use a single keyboard and mouse between Mac and iPad - Apple Support

If all the requirements have been met, and you're still experiencing issues with the device timing out, we'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support directly from this link here: Get Support - Apple

Take care!

Hi Chris,

Thank you for replying to my post.

Both my iMac & my iPad are signed in with my Apple ID using two-factor authentication. Neither device is sharing connections and the iPad is about 25 cm (10 inches) from the left side of the iMac.

Do you have any suggestions of what I might try before contacting Apple Support directly?

Thanks again for your time & effort.
