iCloud Drive Making Multiple Copies of Document Folders & Documents

Hello--

After the most recent update, when my days-old MacBookAir restarted, not only were there three copies of every folder and file, every folder and file within those triplicated folders and files was in triplicate and NONE of them had been updated in the last 14 days. I (stupidly) turned off iCloud Drive for documents and folders to attempt to solve the problem, at which time every document folder and file completely disappeared from my lap top. After tears and frustration, I turned iCloud Drive back on to find extreme multiples situation rendering my documents folder unusable and still lacking in any data from the last 2 weeks. Hidden among the mess of my document folder, I did find one folder that was not duplicated (or triplicated) that was my original saved documents folder with the missing content for that 2 week period.

How do I easily remove all of the duplicated/triplicated documents and folders and return my experience to tidy and organized?

Currently I am not impressed with the functioning of iCloud Drive since it failed to back up the data in a timely fashion....
