Reverting to more recent versions of numbers document saved on cloud

I recently had to reboot my whole system from a backup from December 2021. I didn't think this would be a problem as most of my work is saved in the cloud. But now when I try to open documents saved in the cloud, it reverts to a December 2021 version. If I go to File --> revert to in Numbers then none of the more recent versions are there. If I log onto the cloud through icloud.com I can see that there are more recent versions there from April 2022. But it will not let me open them. Please please please can anyone help!

iMac 27″, macOS 12.2

Are you trying to open them from Numbers for iCloud, i.e. from your browser?

If that's not working the you might try posting here:

iWork for iCloud - Apple Community

Or contact Apple Support.

(The fact that you can't access documents in iCloud Drive from Numbers for Mac might be a different issue.)

You can see the documents at Numbers for iCloud at iCloud.com but you can't download them or open them from Numbers for iCloud?

Yes exactly. From Numbers on the imac the newer versions aren’t showing up at all. I tried on my ipad but as I tried to open it the April version was replaced by the December one. From iCloud.com I can see that they are there but if I try to open them it gives a failure message (cannot open at this time). There is hours and hours of work in those later versions and I’d be immensely grateful to get them back.

Thank you - I'll try the iCloud support forum. Does anyone have a useful way to contact Apple Support? I am currently in Namibia where there is no phone number and I can't find any other way to contact them directly.

Sadly that just takes me to a South African phone number that cannot be accessed from outside South Africa (there is no number for Namibia). It seems mad that there is no way to access an email or a chat.

The support app only takes you to a 'Call' option but you can't call them, they can only call you and then you need a number in the country where there is support. I am travelling to South Africa in a few weeks so could try calling then. But it still seems mad that it is so difficult to ask advice from Apple directly.

Ah, that makes it tough. Something like Google Voice seems to be only for residents of the US and certain other countries.

But there may be other services that allow you to set up, say, a "US" or "UK" number that can receive calls when you are elsewhere, possible for a relatively modest charge.

That’s a good idea! I’ll see if it’s possible to set something up. Thank you! I have had some helpful responses through the Apple Support Twitter account but they ended up sending me back to the phone numbers !

In the end I had to open a new Skype account (my previous one had also locked me out as I didn't have access to my old phone number!) and get a UK number so that Apple Support UK could call me - roundabout but it did work in the end. They still haven't fixed the problem but at least I now have the contact of a human being. Thanks for your help and thinking this through with me!
