Are my files now lost? After my card # was stolen, I tried to update iCloud. They'd already cancelled my 50 GB. Just tried to update, but it said "unable to process at this time." Will my files restore when new # goes through? I the email giving notice arrived 17 hours ago. I just saw it.

… then no, that alone should not have given any thieves access to manipulate your account.
Were other elements of your AppleID security possibly lost/stolen as well? (e.g. password)
Yes, it was a debit card, actually, and I failed to change to my new number for paying for my 50gb storage in time. My fear, though, was that Apple will have deleted the 45gb that I was no longer paying for, for a day. Since my "updating my payment info" can't be processed, yet, I'm concerned about losing my files that way. Pretty sure nothing else was stolen, though that's a good idea & I'll investigate.

I’m pretty sure Apple applies a “grace period” on payments …
… after all, credit cards expire or are stolen all the time …
… although I’m not sure how long the period might be.
