apple id works on icloud.com and iphone, but not my macbook pro. HELP!

I was constantly being asked for my Apple ID password, so I updated to the latest software (did not fix the problem) and then I signed out of icloud. Now it's doing the same thing and won't let me sign in with my Apple ID. It works on icloud.com and on my iPhone. So frustrated...please help
