First start of Mac Studio with usb keyboard and mouse does not work

So this brand new ultra expensive Mac Studio is just sitting here being dumb, thinking it can't find a wireless keyboard AND wireless mouse. Well, the wireless keyboard is powered on and produces a sound when I hit a key. And the wired USB mouse is plugged directly into its USB port and moves the cursor around the screen. Yet it still sits there on the initial startup screen that alternates between showing a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse. What kind of idiotic design is this? How do I make this work like a normal computer and use the peripherals that are connected to it? One would think that a computer would be a lot smarter than this. I'm extremely disappointed. This was not a Steve Jobs-type design decision, that much is clear.

That is not my experience. USB devices work for initial setup.

I used a G4 era USB keyboard and Logitech bluetooth/wifi-dongle mouse in wifi mode to set mine up. With the wifi dongle plugged into USB port it functions like USB wired mouse.

Like I said, wired mouse and keyboard don’t do it. They must both be wireless, which is a stupid design.

It’s a brand new Apple keyboard and Kensington USB mouse that I’ve had for years. I had to dig out an old Apple wireless mouse, find charged batteries for it, then when I forced it to power down and booted it, it finally got past this dumb screen. I’m definitely going to report this as one of the biggest design flaws they’ve ever made. It’s a “pack your things. Maybe Dell will hire you” kind of thing.
