Separate Apple IDs

Can you set up separate Apple ID accounts? In my case, I would like two different MacBooks to have different documents and exist separately from one another but still be connected to iCloud. How would I do this? I discovered the hard way that deleting files on one MacBook deleted them on the other... Whoops!

While not a perfect process, and it will likely require at least some manual “transferring” the easiest method - at the high level - is to:

Create a new AppleID for one of your Macs.

Sign one mac out of it’s current AppleID and then into the new.

Create a family of the two AppleIDs with the original AppleID as the organizer.

Share apps and services to the new AppleID from the old.
