When iPad is acting as a separate display (paired to MacBook), it keeps freezing

Would anyone be able to explain why my iPad display keeps freezing when I am using my iPad as a second display for my MacBook? The iPad itself does not freeze (I am able to leave the screen sharing and use the iPad without issue), but the screen mirroring freezes very often. The only way I'm able to remedy this is to disconnect my iPad from my MacBook and reconnect them, and then the screen mirroring will unfreeze. However, this has been happening every 5-15 minutes as I'm using the iPad as a second display for my MacBook. Both iPad and MacBook are new (purchased within the past year) and they are both updated to the latest macOS and iOS. Thank you so much!
